Tips For Working From Home

We are in unprecedented times due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Businesses all over the world are trying to operate with a dispersed workforce who are working from their homes and Vodafone is no exception. Working from home can be challenging and distracting. We would like to share with you our top tips on remote working and staying motivated during this period.

  1. Create a quiet workspace
Few of us have dedicated room for a home office, or have ever felt the need to have one. It is important to find a quiet, comfortable workspace for you to be able to focus and be productive. If you have other people at home especially kids, it is important to set rules as to what they can and cannot do when you are working in order to avoid distractions.
  2. Develop a routine and manage your time accordingly
Now that you have created a workspace at home, it is time to set your working hours. Organize your day as you would whilst in the office, including writing your “to do list” every morning. Include breaks! Although taking breaks might seem counterproductive, taking short breaks can actually increase productivity. Give yourself time to step away from your laptop or computer and phone just to walk around as stretching frequently helps with blood circulation.
  3. Connect with other colleagues
This is a difficult time for everyone and some of your colleagues may be feeling even more anxious. Check up on your friends and colleagues using technology. Call them, send messages or do a video call for that face-to-face connection we all crave for.
  4. Limit the ‘always on’ mind set.
While working from home, you may have the tendency to be online and productive all the time. However, it is important to maintain regular hours in order to create a boundary between work and home.
  5. Communicate, communicate, communicate!
Remember there is nothing like over communicating when working remotely. Have frequent meetings and make it a point to include all team members in discussions. If you are a team leader, dedicate time for one-on-one coaching sessions with each member. Keep your communication lines open during your working hours in order to be accessible by your team and colleagues.
  6. Stay informed
Checking for updates on COVID-19 is definitely going to be at the top of your list. However, ensure that you are checking the right news sites (government websites or the World Health Organization) for updates. Follow all guidelines to curb the spread of the virus and avoid spreading fake news.
